If It Weren't For You

Sad revelation I've dreamed of tonight
In darkness of my timid, cold room:
World without you just happened for a moment
Shadow of doubt had started to bloom.
Who'll understand it? Whom would I tell it?
Who's left here for me? What should I do?
My aimless wandering somehow to stop
who could ever do it, if it weren't for you?

When day again melts into defeat
And hour after hour is ticking away
"It will be better", You come and say
Cast away sadness and with me stay.
Give me your hand, put up on my feet
Show me your smile, warm like a truth
Faith and courage for new tomorrow
Who'd give it back to me, if it weren't for you.

At times happiness streams down our faces
And from your lips song starts to flow
    Dreams become ever so real
Spring evening with you peacefully glow.
Most beautiful things of all the world
And sky forever to remain blue
Holy love always to be by your side
Whom could I wish to, if it weren't for you?

So many things we have done together
Happiness and sadness we've felt the taste
    Witnessed many beautiful mornings
Not single moment with you was a waste
Don't worry, realize: for friend of mine
I will do even what's not allowed
As long as the last wish has not come true
Who friend would be if it weren't for you?

Get up, move, and brave you stay
Rough roads of life walk with no fear
Let the Earth crumble, let people know
When fearless walks, how does it feel.
And even when you think:"Oh,it's not easy"
Let heart beat mighty and tell the truth.
Who'd make this gray, sad world look better?
No one and never, if it weren't for you.

Da Tebe Nije

    Zlo otkrovenje nocas sam snio
    U tami moje ledene sobe
Svijet bez tebe je za trenutak bio
Ja sumnjat' poceh' u svoje borbe.
Ko ce ih shvatit'? Kome ih reci?
Ko je ostao da ih razumije?
    Besciljna lutanja moja da sprijeci,
ko mogao bi - Da tebe nije.

Kad dan se stopi u poraz jos jedan
I cas za casom u prazno kuca
Dodjes i kazes da bolje bice
    otjeras tugu dalje od srca
Pruzis mi ruku, dignes na noge
Podaris osmijeh ko sunce sto grije
Vjeru i hrabrost za novo sutra
Ko vratio bi - Da tebe nije.

    Sreca kad nasim licima plovi
    S'usana tvojih pjesma potece
    U javu kada prerastu snovi
    Zelja obasja pospano vece.
    Najljepse stvari cijeloga svijeta...
Sunce da nikad niko ne skrije
Da prate te radost i ljubav sveta,
Kom' zelio bih - Da tebe nije.

Mnogo smo toga na putu prosli
    radosti, tuga ukus osjetili
    Jutrima mnogim svjedoci bili
    I tajne nase s'njima dijelili.
Ne boj se, shvati, za prijatelja
radimo cak i sto se ne smije
Sve dok se zadnja ne ostvari zelja.
Ko drug bi bio - Da tebe nije.

    Ustani, kreni, i hrabra budi
    Zivota pute bez straha gazi.
Zemlja nek drhti, nek' znaju ljudi
    Kad tvoja noga svijetom prolazi.
I kad pomislis: "Nije mi lako."
Srce nek gromko u grudima bije.
Ko svijet ovaj sivi krasio bi tako?
Niko i nikad - Da tebe nije.

Nadcovjek

    Pozelio sam danas
    Mozda cak I prije.
    Ne znam.
    Nisam vise ni siguran
    kada nesto pozelim
Da li ja stvarno to zelim
Il mozda sve to bila je varka.
    Mozda nista.
A nesto se tako lagano pretvara u sve
    I svasta.

    Ja letim
U agoniji I nemogucnosti da dotaknem tlo
    Ja prelijecem svoju sjenu
    Laksi od vazduha
    Tako odvratno I nepodnosljivo lagan
    Crtajuci samo obrise po asfaltu
    Koji podsjecaju na mene
Kada sam jednom u svoj svojoj moci
    Na putevima ostavljao svoje tragove
    Jednosmjernom ulicom
    Na putu noci.
    Koje su neki drugi ljudi
    Slijedili.
    Da nastavim...
Pitam se da li cu moci?

    Procitao sam neke nevjerovatne rime
    Nisam mogao da ne upitam,
Dal sad se ljudi ponose time
    cega su se ranije
    Stidjeli?
    Dal' se ponosim?
    Cime?
    Svaka misao koja prokljuca
    u mome umu brzinom munje
    raspline se
    U nevidljivu paru
    zagadjuje zrak
    Oko nas,
    U nama
Moj um je najcrnja tamnica od svih.
Sjecas li se pjesnikovih rijeci tih?
Ja slutim da u njima se krije
    Ne samo istina,
    Nego sudbina.
Dok znoj sad hladno lice mi mije.

    Po mojim zidovima tragovi stopala
    Hodao sam nocas u snu.
Ne samo hodao, nego se u svom morfoizmu
Stopio sa zidom dok su mi stopala
tonula u mekanu povrsinu hladnog betona,
    prema dnu
Po mome srcu kisa je pala.

    Otputovao sam rijecima do tebe
    Osjetio sam se opet hrabar
    Ali zastao sam osjetivsi
hladnocu koja je dopirala iz tvoga daha.
    Gospode,
Zasto ti nikada nisam mogao reci da sam te volio
    U proslom zivotu
    Prije samog boga
    Bez straha
    Jednom,
    Prije no sto je Noje
    zaplovio potopom.

    Ponekad zalim, ali vise puta
Sam zahvalan samom sebi za samocu
I one trenutke kada smo sami Ja,
Ja i ti. U pukotini uma
    Dok se bezglavo stvorenje nadahnuca
    Koprca u mulju srca,
    Napokon se rodi,
    kriveci lice od bola
    Pa onda pocne trcati
    Skakati
    Lomiti se po ustajalom vazduhu
    Dok toliko ne naraste
    i napokon eksplodira
    uz zaglusujuci krik
    Prskajuci lice krvlju
    Dok sekunde otkucavaju,
    Jedan trenutak je rodjen
    I odmah je umro
    Zatim jos jedan, stvarajuci groblje
    Besmislenih trenutaka
    Protezuci se u beskraj
    U nemogucnosti da stigne
    Da dotakne
    Grob ispred sebe.
Jos jedan stih je nasao put iz uma
    U beskraj.
    U prazno.

    Razmisljao sam o kreaciji
    I nepostojanju
    Originalnosti misli koja nam fali.
    Za mene,
    svaki je ludak originalan
    svaki bezumnik neshvacen
    Svaki originalnosti kralj.
    Samo mu nikada za to
    priznanje nismo dali.
A originalnost cuci i krije se
    Zaklonjena,
    Neuhvatljiva,
    Nepostojeca,
Za nas koji je oduzimamo od drugih
    I slavimo kao svoju.
    Slavimo kao neshvacenu.
    Jedinstvenu i sakrivenu.

    Bjezi!
    Prijatelju,skloni se od mene
Ja cu svojom lakocom slomiti sve
    Principe kojima su te ucili
    I mozda
    Kad ne budes ni sanjao
    zapalicu i volju u tebi
    Da se promijenis,
    Zivis,
    Umres,
    I opet se rodis
    U jednom trenu.
    Kao ja.

    JA,JA,JA,JA
To je sve sto sam cuo danas
Kada sam gazio po grobovima osoba
Koje su pale za sulude ideale
I koje nikada nece cuti svoje JA
    Opet.
    Iznova iz usta dragih osoba.
Krocio sam zemljom gdje sve sto bjese
su bili samo grob do groba.
Starica koja je plakala kraj krsta
    S'podocnjacima objesenim do poda
Zalec za nekim od svoga roda
    Upita bijesno kriveci lice:
Je li ti i ovo malo?!?
    Zastoj.
    Tisina.
    Da li je?
    Htio sam da povicem.
    Da riknem u bijesu,
U svoj velicini da usi joj skrsim:
    Zeno! Ljudi!!!
Vi sto ste prodali svoje ideale
zamijenili ih za tudje ideje lude
Da li bi mijesto mijenjali sa mnom
    I da umjesto vasih zalosti
Sve jedna radost mog srca bude?
Dal' bi slavili ili me kleli
Za svo prokletstvo sto sobom nosim?
    Dok dusu za dusom
    na putu slave
    nemilosrdno pred sobom kosim?

Mislite li: ta meni je lako?
    Jos niste najstrasniju
    scenu vidjeli.
    Jeste li?
    Lice moje,
    Taj kamen hladni,
    kada sam ja potpuno miran.
    Nepostojeci
    Kao puls pokojnika koje oplakujete
I onda ne samo da cujem
    Nego osjecam:
    JA! JA! JA! JA!
    Meni je malo.
    Da!
    Meni je suvise malo.
Cudoviste se otima iz moje unutrasnjosti.
A JA vas gledam ocima djeteta.
    Nevino,
    I spremno za zlocin.

    Misli-one su najvece blago
za onog koji ih zna koristiti
I najveca kazna za onog koji
jedino misli da ne zna kako.
    Suzdrzavam se,
    Borim se ostati svjestan
    Svog okruzenja
I ne puci pred tim prizorom
    Ignorantnosti.
    Trazim,
    Nalazim,
    Ali ne uspijevam
    da sacuvam.
    Misao...
    Najbolje dolazi sa samocom
    I jutarnjom kafom
    Uz sivilo dima cigarete
    koja para pluca.
    Sa novim danom
    I novim pocetkom
    Ja nastavljam,
    Kao i svi mi
    Nove pocetke
    Vezujuci ih
    Na nase nezavrsene krajeve

I plakao bih, da samo mogu
sa svakom suzom bol bice manja.
    Lagao sve do besvijesti ljude:
    neprijatelja i brata svog.
    Skoncao zlocin, prokletstvo znanja.
    Al ne da mi djavo,
    Il' neki Bog.

Superman

    I made a wish today.
    Perhaps even before.
    I am not certain,
    Not anymore.
When my soul longs for something
    Weather desire was heart-bottom truth
Or just another illusion had happened
    To me…
    Just like you did.
    Yes, a lot like you.

    I fly.
In agony, unable to touch the ground
With my feet over my shadow,
    Reaching closed sky.
    Lighter than air.
So disgustingly light I hardly can bear.
Drawing silhouettes on the stones of asphalt
    That merely resemble of myself
Once, when I’d in the peek of my might
On one way street paved with the light
Left clear traces, left deep scars
Some other people once must have followed
From deep dirt of mud to shiny throne
    Where now? – I ask.
Will I be able once more to go on?

I read some of incredible rhymes
Could not help it, but not to ask:
Why are we proud of all those things
That we were ashamed of once in the past?
    Am I proud?
    Where my pride comes from?
I’d know if moment could forever last.
Now every thought that boils in my mind
    Disappears in a lightning moment
    Turns into vapor
    Pollutes the air
    Around us,
    Inside ourselves.
“My mind is the darkest dungeon of all.”-
Do you remember words of long lost poet?
The omen reaching through hollow dreams
Speaks of a meaning and of my means.
Truth and destiny hidden in one place.
I feel it, as sweat in fear
    Runs down my face.

    I sleepwalked again last night.
Not only walked, but in my polymorphism
Melt down with the wall, while my feet
Sunk in soft surface, towards the bottom
    Of cold concrete.
    Rain fell over my heart.

I traveled to you through my dreams and words
Felt brave, reborn all over again
But I stopped abruptly the moment I felt
Icy knife reaching from your breath.
    Oh, God,
Why couldn’t I ever say that I loved you
    In past life and before
    The God himself
    Once
    Before Noah sailed his way
    Through awful, rotten
    God's swamps.

    Occasionally
I regret, but most of times
I’m thankful to myself for the way I travel
On this road of self, and those magic moments
When we are alone: Just me,
I and you, in crack of the mind
    When headless creature of inspiration
Dances in the mud of heart
    Finally is born
    Then starts to run
    Jumping around
    Like a madman,
Growing each second feeding on dirt
That boils and spreads from air around.
    Until it finally overgrows
    And painfully thorn
    Explodes
    With ear piercing howling
    Squirting face with blood.
    While seconds are ticking away.
    One moment was born
    But previous died
Then another one right after it.
Making a graveyard of pointless moments
    Reaching eternity, reaching so far.
    Still unable to reach,
    To touch
The grave in front of it.
Another verse found its way out
    Another scar,
    In eternity.
    In emptiness.

    I thought about creation
And lack of originality in our lives.
    To me, every
    Madman is original
Insane man-big or a small one
    Misunderstood, every one-originality master
Although we never gave him a credit.
    A thought-Not a bit.
    But originality quietly hides itself
    Untouchable,
    Non-existent
For us, who take it away from others.
    Celebrating it as our own.
    Celebrating it as misunderstood.
    Unique and hidden
    From hungry world.

    Run away!
Hide your self away, my friend.
With all this lightness I’ll try to break
Principles and laws you have learned so far
    And perhaps at the end,
    When you least expect it
I’ll fire up the will inside you to change
    To live and to die
    And be born again.
    All in one moment-
    Just like did I.

    I, I, I, I !
That’s all my ears have heard today
    Marching over a gloomy graves
Of those who have fallen for silly ideals
Of those who will never hear silent pray
From their dearest ones, their closest ones.
An old woman with eyes hanging to the ground
Mourning for someone of her own kind
Asked me, twisting her furious face:
Is this still not enough for you???
    Pause.
    Quiet.
    Isn’t it?
    I wanted to scream,
To rip sky with voice and all world to be
    One sword of screams:
    Woman! People!!!
You, who have sold your own dreams
Replaced them with someone’s foolish ideals
Wouldn’t you rather trade place with me?
So instead of all your bitter sorrows
Glorious happiness of my heart to be.
Would you celebrate or cry out in rage
For all curses I have brought down with me
While soul after soul is mercilessly cut
And under my feet, in dirt, it bleeds.

You must be thinking-It’s so easy for a man
    Still haven’t seen the most
    Terrifying scene.
    Have you?
    My face-that pale, cold stone
When peace streams down through my open veins
    So peaceful-
    Non existing,
Like a pulse of a dead man you’re crying for
And then, not only that I just hear.
In magic of glorious moment I feel:
    I! I! I! I!
    It’s too insufficient for me!
    Yes!
    So limited and so insufficient.
The beast is roaring in rage from inside
While I look at you all with eyes of a child
    Innocently,
    And ready for crime.

Thoughts-they are the greatest treasure of all
For those sophisticated enough to use them.
And are even a greater punishment
For those who can only soak their mind
In idea that says: ”I don’t know how”.
    I try to stay calm
    Aware of surroundings
Try not to blow up in front of ignorance sight.
    I look for,
    I’m finding…
But can’t seem to keep for long time
    Thought.
A friend that comes the best in pair with silence
Like a guest, with morning coffee and grayness
    Of cigarette smoke.
    With every new day
    And new beginning
    I continue
    Like we all continue
    Our new beginning
    Tying it onto
    Our unfinished,
    Never ending
    Ends.

Oh just how bitterly I want to cry!
Each tear will wash out from my stained soul pain.
Endlessly I would cheat people, lie-
My foe as well as the brother of mine.
End up the curse of my knowledge-
    That Crime.
But devil doesn’t want to allow.
    Devil or some silly
    Miniature god.

Eternity isn't for all

Your fears,
uncomfortably living
in cemeteries under your sheets
The undead vivid reminders of hollow past
Each night they pull you down in their graves
screaming, pale like the Death,
The only thing you can ask
Is for how long this torture will last.
Clawing through past and the agony
Not turning or looking back
Digging your way out of darkness,
courage is not what you lack.
In moment, you're awake,
so start thinking.
Of another reason to get you through.
Revelation is more than comforting:
Eternity isn't for you.

His life is quiet, succumbed
To illusion he nurtured so dearly
He'll take away your pain,
your fears...
Oh, he even see it so clearly!!!
To spite himself once more
for hope your wishes to fill
But what your frail soul adorns
Is far removed from his will.
Existence changes with shadows
Different at day than at night
The future will surely come soon
and fill this meaningless plight
with pitch
black
darkness.
All his intentions won't matter
Sacrifice of blood or limb
Everlasting life will be better:
It doesn't belong to him.

Standing on verge of the abyss,
Looking on either shore
These spectacles trouble my being
Till my soul exists no more.
I cry and I thank to creator
for his generous lack of kindness,
creativity,
all encompassing blindness,
and consideration he hid
like an embarrassing mole.
All I am thankful for now is:
Eternity isn't for all.

Libertarian Push for Mainstream

In order to foster libertarian activism in the upcoming elections and beyond, I am proposing and opening for discussion the plan outlined in this text. Some parts of the plan do not apply directly to activism, but rather to activist's education, which will help us articulate and defend our position once the activism has finally given us the opportunity and audience we can speak to.

The Reason

The political dialogue in the United States has unfortunately devolved into 30 seconds sound bites, tested by the public opinion groups, for candidates of ruling parties to deliver in the format that can hardly be called a debate. But the solid debate and contrasting of libertarian positions against the two dominant parties is exactly what's necessary for libertarians as whole, and Libertarian Party in particular, to reclaim their rightful place in the American politics and participate in crafting the policies that will shape the future for the generations to come. This change cannot, and will not happen from the top up. No matter how appealing the thought of libertarian candidate or someone in likes of Ron Paul, winning the presidency really is, we have to be realistic and admit that the establishment, with all the laws they have crafted for the past few decades, will not allow that to happen. The change will come from the bottom up. It will come from the local politics. It will come when we've reached enough people locally and enacted policies that others can use as their guide. It will come when we prove again that liberty and human interaction, without the coercion of state, produce once more the marvels of human creativity. I hope this renaissance of liberty starts in Tampa Bay, Florida.
The two-party duopoly that's currently draining the life and money out of the general public has been established to give American people an illusion that they have some kind of a choice and check over their rulers. The byproduct of decades of ever-expanding state has been the loss of interest of the general public for the governmental affairs and civic duties. I suspect this is also by design of professional bureaucrats that have dominated the political discourse for the long time. Libertarians must account for this loss of interest, and sometimes flat-out apathy of the general public when engaging in any discussion. The first rule of writing and public speaking is to always be mindful of your audience. If you lose your audience, the efforts to persuade them will fail, regardless of how sound your argument is, and regardless of how much your position would benefit them if implemented.  Winning the audience and tailoring the message of liberty depending on who's listening will be a big part of the program that I am proposing here.

The Plan

Now that I went over the reasons for the plan and obstacles we will face putting it out there, I want to go over some high-level specific action items we will need to discuss and implement. As any serious proposal, this plan will focus on actions that will affect several key areas; public outreach, education, and the local political engagement, being the three most important ones.

Public Engagement

Even the worst plans, the plans and programs that work directly against the public, put out by the establishment parties find their support in the public due to the outreach and engagement of establishment tentacles that never rest. To be successful in spreading the message of liberty, we must never rest either. Several prominent areas we need to focus on are local newspapers, websites, and television stations. Even though the national issues are a lot more dominant on the cable channels, local issues, presented in the true light, are still very important to the members of our Tampa Bay community. To put the message out to our local media, I present the following:
1.                  Tampa Bay Libertarians should monitor the current local events, and send carefully crafted letters to the editors of the local newspapers regarding all local events. Letters include, but are not limited to Tampa Bay Times, Tampa Tribune, TBO.com, and other prominent local news outlets. The letters must be concise, and present the real alternative to the typical Republican/Democrat approach.
2.                  Tampa Bay has many locally operated radio stations. Libertarians should engage in a thoughtful discussion on current issues using this medium. I do not expect to reach the likes of Rush Limbaugh or reverend Glenn Beck with our message since they are too far gone, but the local programs would be a fertile ground for our platform and public outreach.
3.                  Tampa Bay has many voluntary events that libertarians can participate in under the party banner. Events such as public hearings and political gatherings can be used to spread the message of liberty to the audience.
4.                  Libertarians need a dedicated public relations team in charge of publishing the timely, official statements regarding current events to all local news outlets. These statements should be used to give the public an alternative to the official, two-party endorsed opinions.

Libertarian Education

All the public outreach is futile if the message expressed by it is not clearly defined. The danger we must avoid is to allow our message to be blurred and equated with the message of current two-party duopoly. On each occasion, we must present the clear alternative to both ruling parties and refuse to side ourselves with either of them. Comparing ourselves to the republican or democrat party would be comparing the same as comparing us to theocratic Iran and communist China. Our liberal philosophy is what has created the United States to begin with, and we must continue to emphasize the best of the libertarian thinking in each public engagement. To enable this, we must foster the education on theory and application of libertarian principles to the current society. It would be a shame if the public finally heard us just to realize that we have really nothing to say to separate us from the establishment. Round tables and friendly discussions in person on history, ethics, and applications to current problems must once again be resurrected. Resources-rich websites, such as www.mises.org should be a regular stop for any libertarian interested in learning any aspect of libertarianism.
To accommodate different types of learning styles, a YouTube channel should be established to provide video lessons, local problems discussions, and official statements to the liberty lovers across the internet. Due to the recession and lack of funds, I understand this may not be doable at the moment, but the Tampa Bay Libertarians should have a local office open to all, that serves as the center of all our activity. Having the office would allow us to call public meetings and invite participants from all over the state of Florida and beyond to guest speak and be a part of the solution. The libertarian movement has factions across the United States and the world. In order to achieve the coherent message and have a lasting impact on the current affairs, the movement factions must link and participate in the open and honest discussion. Tampa Bay Libertarians must be definitive in their commitment to open dialogue and participation of all groups, even if the platform of some group differs slightly from the platform of libertarians.

Tampa Bay Concrete Political Plan

Finally, we need to show that libertarian principles are not just pie-in-the-sky utopian babbling, and present the concrete plan of moving Tampa Bay and its counties forward.  Libertarian will not find a better friend and ally for this than math. The power of real numbers and the power to relate those numbers to each citizen will serve as the perfect ground to stand against the establishment tendency to use make believe numbers and unicorn projections. What we need to do is obtain the actual budget of each respective county we're looking at, and then reveal the waste with real numbers. After the waste has been revealed, it needs to be related to the amount of taxes and fees each citizen pays in order to allow it. This waste is particularly prevalent in the areas of police and sheriff departments, the departments that the establishment now tends to call “first responders” in order to elevate their existence and function to something essential and noble. Together we need to show them that the first responders to any event are the people closest to it: the community that's affected by the event. Unlike police and sheriff deputies, whose best interests do not often align with the interest of the community, we are the ones that will directly be affected by the outcome of any affair that takes place within our community. We must not be afraid or hesitant to point out the many shortcomings and abuses of power that come from the “first-responders”.
We must not be afraid to point out the liberty is the end goal, and not some optimal condition for other goals, irrespective of what the situation on the ground is. With that goal as the guiding light, we will conquer all obstacles that come our way. We will endure the shortcomings of the current system, all the while paving the road for the better, and the more logical one. We will demonstrate once more to the world what it means to be an American, having the highest ideals of human liberty, as well as the centuries of liberal philosophy to help us, and serve the individuals in achieving whatever goal, they themselves, as individuals, set out for to achieve. And in you, Tampa Bay Libertarians, who decided to forgo the established system despite the personal gain associated with it, I see the force of future, and know that I couldn't have hoped for better companions to help me on this journey.

Not so prospectus liberty...

And here we go!
Like clockwork, without ever missing a beat; circus act that comes along every four years, we’re again in the eye of a hurricane called Election(s). And of course, the groupies are coming along with two circus troupes to make the experience of unassuming American electorate complete. Most of the groupies, as one would suspect, are just there for the act itself and backstage passes to the glittery (sic) performers, but in both camps there are those who take their zealotry to the level only seen in religions. These free-pollutants, these hordes of fanatics, frothing at their mouths are roaming through your cities and towns. With blind dedication and blood-shot eyes full of establishment lines they will make sure that anyone who is not attending the circus be persuaded otherwise.  You all know them. You all heard them and were annoyed with them: The “wasted vote” bashers!!! In essence, you will get lectured, and most probably bashed if you proclaim that either you don’t vote in the elections, or you vote for a third party. On the other hand, you’ll have your “patriotism” questioned if you proclaim you’re voting for “the other guy”. If you are a logical, thinking person, and if you prefer to draw your own conclusions instead of reciting the pre-canned ones, you have undoubtedly run into one of the situations above. If you had some time to waste and tried to use logic to articulate your position to “the patriot”, you found that after 10-20 seconds they went from trying to comprehend what you’re saying, to simply checking the box in their brain that indicates you are _________________ (commie, terrorist sympathizer, big business shill, anarchist, hater of this country, hater of Israel, terrorist, hater of Palestinians, Zionist,  hater of babies, global-warming-denier,  hater of….well…ah, you get the point), and you need to be outshouted (not outsmarted)  to get in line and just “be a team player” that “supports America”.
To start with, the argument of “wasted vote” is hogwash, and tons of ink, both digital and physical, has been spent to illustrate why this argument is a losing one. For the sake of keeping things clean and concise, I will not engage in rehashing the “lesser of two evils” argument. Instead, there are only few things I want to address here, and they range in progressive weight from patriotic duty, arrogance of vote ownership, to questions whether there’s any difference between the left and right boot, and finally, what does voting for them really mean. To lay all cards on the table before we begin, I must admit that I am a member of Libertarian Party and LNC, but even as such, I am not asking  (or begging) from you to cast the vote for Libertarian Party in the next elect ions.
Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel, proclaimed Samuel Johnson in the late 1775. The meaning of that statement then is equally important as it is now. But what does it mean, you may ask, my unwashed, uneducated reader? Let us consider the following exchange I’ve been through recently:
-          Zealot: Oh wow, things are pretty bad in this country since (X) took over. We will have to get rid of him/her in the upcoming elections.
-          Me: Things have been bad for a long time, my zealot friend, and nothing is going to change if you replace (X) with (Y).
-          Zealot: Well, the (Y) is much better for this country because (X) did (insert party talking points here) and Y wants to (insert party talking points here).
-          Me: The problems you’re referring to have started long before (X) took office, and have been made substantially worse by the policies of (Insert some predecessor of Y here).
-          Zealot: It is your PATRIOTIC duty to vote and remove (X) from the office so the (Y) can take over, take the country back (sic) and make it work again (sic).
-          Me: Well some founding fathers of the country believed that the highest form of patriotism was to question your government and not blindly follow in its footsteps. Now, I don’t think there’s much difference between (X) and (Y), but I like some policies of (X) and want those policies to remain, and if I end up voting in this election, I’d probably vote for (X) because (Y)’s policies would (insert thoughtful and accurate analysis of Y’s platform and its implications).
-          Zealot: WHAT? I can’t believe you’d even consider that because (Y) is (insert even more talking points here)!!!!
-          Me: Well, if you look at the actual policies and performance between (X) and (Y), you see that they are the same more often than not. Also (insert some annoying arithmetic here (relative debt to GDP ratio works miracles) that further supports your argument). This is why I think that change cannot and will not happen from within the system and I choose nether of them.
-          Zealot: You DO NOT understand!!! This is the fork in the road. We have to choose (Y). We are at the brink as a country! By not supporting (Y), you’re only supporting (X) and you will be sorry when this country is (insert any threat to the country from previous election here).
-          Me: Well, I am sure that’s not going to happen, but I have to go back to work now.
-          Zealot: OK, are we still up for the Sunday game?
-          Me: Sure.
Folks, there’s no patriotic duty to vote. Never was, never will be. Voting for X or Y to fill in the shoes of their predecessors is not as eventful as even picking up the remote control and changing the channel on your TV, let alone affecting any meaningful change. Our history has shown that when the country is under legitimate attack, there’s no shortage of volunteers who will come in its defense. What zealots really mean is that by voting you are complying with their version of patriotism, which, in essence, is the same as complying with the platform of the party of zealot.

I have been a member of Libertarian Party and LNC for a while now. Usually, we’d hold our conventions without anyone noticing, we’d spend all the money fighting courts to get on the ballot in all states, and we’d get our usual 1-2% of the vote, leaving us in the aftermath of elections wondering what we can do different to garner more votes next time. CATO institute would write some eulogy, and Reason magazine would do the same. The party believed it was destined for 1-2% of the vote period. In the 2008 election cycle, I had a chance to observe the election process, the circus, the debates, the primaries, and the whole shebang. Little did I expect, but I got a lot more than I ever could imagine.
It was to be another uneventful republican debate and I wasn’t prepared for anything else. From the start though, an unassuming, frail-looking old man started wiping floor with his opponents using my favorite tool: logic. I watched as his opponents started to snicker and try to rebuttal him with talking points. He was steadfast. He made sense. He knew history. He knew economic business cycle. He knew the cure to get this country on the path of healing. He was laughed at. He was booed. But even with booing, he was able to give all his opponents little “reading list” that would lead them out of their blind ignorance. I listened as authors and their works poured out of his mouth and broke against his opponents closed-shut ears.  I was amazed and my eyes turned to my own bookshelf: The reason I was so amazed is because the most authors listed I already had on my shelf and was quite big fan of. This has got to be a joke, I said to myself. This old mad is way out of the element here surrounded by big mouth chicken haws that kept spewing their official sound bites. In my disbelief, I turned to my phone and called a senior member of LNC (let’s call him Bob). The conversation went something like this:
-          Bob: Hello?
-          Me: Hey Bob, are you watching the republican debate?
-          Bob: Why would I?
-          Me: There’s one old guy that’s making sense for a change and is educating the rest of them about the principles that are aligned with ours.
-          Bob: Oh, that’s Ron Paul.
-          Me: Ron who?
-          Bob: He was the LP candidate in 1988. He gave a finger to Reagan and ran as a libertarian. Since then, he returned to the congress as a republican and has been there ever since.
-          Me: What do republicans have to do with us?
-          Bob: Nothing at all. Unfortunately, since we were usually on the same side against the enemy, some people in the republican party believe that libertarians and all the votes that come with them belong to GOP.
-          Me: That’s BS, since we’re diametrically opposed to all GOP stands for.
-          Bob: Never underestimate the power of political pressure.
-          Me: Pressure or not, this man belongs to LP.
-          Bob: True, but he won’t run with LP.
-          Me: Why Not? After all, he’s saying all we have in our platform.
-          Bob: The system is rigged.
-          Me: What system?
-          Bob: The courts.
-          Me: What do courts have to do with elections and parties???
-          Bob: They control who gets on the ballot in each state. It’s been a rigged game for a while now.
-          Me: WHAT???
-          (silence) …….. (disconnect)……..(busy signal).

I did not know all this because I came from far away. I didn’t know this because I wasn’t born here. I believed in the “home of the brave and land of the free” until the contrary slapped me so hard over my head I had another awakening. IT’s a rigged system, but all rigged systems require participation of all parties in order to perpetuate themselves. Who’s this Ron Paul guy, a guy with two first names? I don’t think I was the only one with such reaction. I embarked to find out that this guy is and what exactly is he doing in the GOP. I think that was the issue that bothered me the most. The rest is history. History for myself, and for thousands that woke up under the weight of his message. I’ve witnessed something remarkable: thousands of people getting registered into a party that has absolutely nothing to do with the youth, progress, or the way forward. Out of curiosity I reached out and talked to many of these newcomers to the GOP. Do they support wars? Do they support overblown budgets? Do they support PATRIOT act? Do they support Medicare Part D? The answer to all those questions from them was no. They supported Mr. Paul and they believed that all of them combined would be able to defeat the establishment machine with honest approach. It is now 2012.Once more these folks were called to cast the ballot for the nominee of the party:  Once more (as in any election cycle) for the “lesser of two evils”. They were cheated. Their delegates were cheated. Their votes stripped. They were shown what happens when some unexpected and unapproved change enters the system. They were lead to believe that voting really matters. They were wrong.
Now the frothy-mouths want to tell you that it’s time to fall in line. “Your guy lost, it’s time to fall in step with the party because we have to defeat (X)”. Now you have to reflect and ask yourself this:
If it were not for Mr. Paul, would you really belong to the republican party and still be registered as a republican without having to take a hot shower every 10 minutes??? If not so, then it is time for you to punish the arrogance of the party that believes simply because you’re registered with it, your vote automatically belongs to them. Imagine their arrogance. Imagine their vein. Just because you saw one defection from the establishment, and you registered to legally cast your ballot for the defection, it means that your vote belongs to the establishment. Don’t let them simmer with this belief too long. Make them remember soon that your vote, and your consent, belongs solely to you. It is not to be traded or exchanged for party favors. Its precise arithmetic is not to be traded for party’s groupthink and small favors. If you give in their ways then you truly don’t have a room to complain. Many people warned you. Mr. Paul warned you. I warned you. If after all the warnings you fall into the trap, then everyone else will need to seek the fault anywhere else but with you.
What lies ahead, I do not know. But I am not a coward to try to prevent something just because I don’t know what the outcome of it is: I am NOT a conservative. I’m not a coward to try to prevent something because I can’t control it: I’m NOT a democrat.  Neither are all of you. I’m not asking for your vote, but I’m asking from you to stay individuals and not fall for the groupthink of either parties. The future might be bleak, bright, or neither. We can’t know it. One thing I will ask from you is to keep your spirit up and as youthful as it can be. The old paradigms are falling and it will be up to us to take over soon and rebuild things as we did many times before. Are you up for that task? If so, are you sure?
You better be.
